Scope and Contents

Materials in this collection are mainly visual and consist of hand painted designs created by surface designer Joann Nelsen from the 1970s - 1990s. The collection also contains a small amount of correspondence, business papers, ephemera and photographs related to both her early career as a fine artist as well as her later career as a textiles and wallcoverings designer.

Scope and Contents The materials in this collection document the career of Joe Martin, textiles designer and interior renderer active in the mid-to-late 20th century who worked both in the United States and in Europe. The collection consists of textiles, renderings, magazine tears, editorials, and photographs. The Yale R. Burge Antiques and Interiors Collection contains sixteen boxes of materials related to the career of Yale R. Burge (1917-1972) who was a leading interior designer and headed both Yale R. Burge Interiors, an interior design firm based in New York City, and Yale R. Burge Antiques, which from 1955 to 2013 was an indispensable resource of 18th and 19th Century French and English furniture and accessories for some the nation’s top designers.
