Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

The materials in this collection document the career of Joe Martin, textiles designer and interior renderer active in the mid-to-late 20th century who worked both in the United States and in Europe. The collection consists of textiles, renderings, magazine tears, editorials, and photographs.

Martin’s textiles were produced by such companies as Falconetto, Arundell Clarke, Ltd., JOFA, Inc., Piazza Prints and Quiantaince. The collection contains two tubes of rolled fabrics, the largest measuring 39”x42” and the smallest 3”x5”. Some fabrics have Joe Martin’s name printed on the fabric while others are unidentified.

Some of the renderings within the collection are portraits of rooms which were produced for articles in Vogue, House & Garden, House Beautiful and Architectural Digest. The magazine tears and clippings consist of advertisements and articles that Martin illustrated for a variety of magazines and newspapers.
