Biography

Paul Nelsen, the former husband of Joann Nelsen, was a ceramic designer who created handmade pieces for home decorating showrooms in New York City, including chandeliers, tables and stands, vases, candle holders, tableware and other various decorative pieces.

Scope and Contents

Materials in this collection are mainly visual and consist of hand painted designs created by surface designer Joann Nelsen from the 1970s - 1990s. The collection also contains a small amount of correspondence, business papers, ephemera and photographs related to both her early career as a fine artist as well as her later career as a textiles and wallcoverings designer.
